RoomStation^TM is based on Audney's Living Room Platform^TM - a combination of tools, utilities and scripts integrated within a custom Linux distribution purpose built by Audney for the digital home segment, which in turn is based on the award winning Gentoo Linux platform.

The guiding philosophy has been use-centric - instead of just putting together a bunch of applications, we first analysed what a home user typically needs and how they interact with the system. Application selection was then based on this analysis.

User experience is another important critirieon we are concerned with. Not only are there powerful applications in the distribution, but they have all been configured to inter-operate with each other. That's why, for example, you can drag and drop an email in the notes taking application of upload to Flickr.com directly from the digital photo management application. And speed matters. The distribution and all applications on it are carefully optimised to give you maximum performance. These include chipset/processor specific optimisations, bootup optmisations, kernel optimisations, compiler optimisations and graphics acceleration. Here are some vital stats:
